Which types of motor vehicle collisions present the greatest potential for multiple impacts?

Frontal and rotational

Rear-end and rotational

Rotational and rollover

The main idea is how crashes lead to more than one contact event for the vehicle and its occupants. When a car spins, rotation means it can strike new surfaces as it continues moving, creating additional impacts rather than a single hit. If a rollover occurs, the car tips and tumbles, repeatedly contacting the ground, roof, doors, and other objects from different angles. Put together, rotation and rollover produce a chain of impacts in multiple directions, far more than a straight, single-angle crash. The other scenarios tend to involve fewer sequential contacts—frontal or rear-end or lateral phrased events—where the vehicle is more likely to experience one dominant impact rather than a cascade of hits.
